Visiting a winery for a wine tasting is only one of the various activities one can do while in Campania. Summers tend to be quite hot in the south of Italy, while temperatures during winter remain quite mild. The best periods to book your wine tastings and winery visits in Campania are either between April and June or between September and October. Which is the best season to visit Campania? Some non-local grape varieties are also cultivated in Campania nowadays, such as Barbera and Sangiovese.

Example of this are Aglianico, Piedirosso and Sciascinoso for the red grape varieties, and Asprinio, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco and Coda di Volpe for the white grape varieties. The majority of the grapes that you will come across while visiting the wineries of Campania are present in the territory since ancient times. Campania is also home to many products symbols of Italy’s food excellence, such as its buffalo mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and Amalfi lemons to name a few.

In between your wine tastings in Campania, make sure to try at least a few of its traditional dishes, such as Neapolitan pizza, mussels impepata, eggplant parmigiana, scialatielli, babà and pastiera. Undoubtedly, some of Italy’s most iconic food originated in this region too. Nowadays, the region boasts 10 IGT, 14 DOC and 4 DOCG appellations. During the Roman empire, wines produced in Campania started being exported even outside of Italy. In fact, the hilly territory that characterizes this region favored the cultivation of vines, which were introduced by the Greeks. While visiting its wineries, you will also learn more about Campania’s winemaking history.

Your wine tastings in Campania will include a few different types of local wines, usually paired with some delicacies from the area. During your time in Campania, you will not only be able to enjoy various wine tastings while visiting its wineries, but you will also have the chance to visit Mount Vesuvius, one of the few active volcanoes in Europe, and admire the beauty of the famous Amalfi coast. In fact, Le Marche borders three other regions, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria, with the Adriatic Sea to the northeast. Before the unification of Italy in 1861, they had a lot of borders and ports to protect, which means lots of spectacular fortresses and castles to visit!
